Text Box: There are over six billion people on this planet, and every day each person has at least one idea. The ideas may be simple or complex, mundane or revolutionary. Each idea may have different objectives, and many ideas will be self-serving. However from all these ideas come solutions to current challenges. Out of all these ideas, one idea is changing the world.

Most people understand the concept of using a magnifying glass to concentrate sunlight and start paper on fire. What if you used a magnifying glass to heat water? What if you used many little magnifiers and reflectors to focus the power of light? The water could be super-heated and the resulting steam could be used to turn turbines and create electricity. It sounds pretty simple, doesn’t it? Yet the application of this concept can change humanity and save our planet.

I recently received an email declaring the invention of new solar collection devices that are 1500 times more efficient than current technology. Imagine a world where every house is self-sufficient with its own solar power unit. Imagine a world where we do not have to burn coal or gas or oil. Imagine a world where electricity is abundant, and everyone’s power requirements are supplied without harming the planet.

While I did track down the research center that made the announcement, there has been no coverage of this breakthrough in mainstream news. When I spoke to others about the discovery, people expressed doubts. Where did the article come from? Was it from the internet? What if someone made it up? Rather than seeking direct confirmation of the facts, I decided to follow the principles of ‘what if?’ After many hours of research and discussion, I have come to some conclusions.

A breakthrough in solar energy conversion could change the world. Current solar technology is limited, and most solar devices have simple applications such as charging batteries. There are a few large solar power generation stations around the world, and a few more are under construction. There are many players in the energy market, and most of them have billions of dollars invested in research. As our need for a new energy source increases, our focus increases the likelihood of manifestation.

As a species, we are shifting from the oil age to the solar age. Many changes will come with the shift and our way of life can improve. Billions of people can improve their standard of living, and have their basic needs fulfilled. Many of the issues facing our planet can be resolved. With abundant electricity comes sufficient drinking water, massive food production, better medical care and comfortable lodgings. With electricity comes the ability to manufacture, to create jobs and products and cash flow. Abundant availability of energy can help humanity save the world.

In addition to the collection of solar energy, we need to develop effective energy storage systems to balance out sporadic electricity. The sun is not always shining in every location. While enhanced batteries are on the creation list, we can also balance energy by creating an electric grid that encircles the world. If every location is linked together, there would always be some areas collecting sunlight. Once we learn more about our capabilities, consistent cheap abundant electricity can be available to everyone.

While I could not confirm the news article that triggered my investigation, I realized that it doesn’t matter. Sooner or later someone will discover enhancements to current technology. As a species we continually progress. As for my own contribution, this shift will occur whether or not I participate. There will be much change, and in change there is opportunity. Within the minds that form the mass consciousness there are many brilliant ideas. One by one we change the world.
