Text Box: I attended a U2 concert in Toronto this week, and it was an incredible experience. Nineteen thousand people in one oval arena, centered around a large oval walkway. Inside the oval walkway were hundreds of people. At one end of the large egg there was a yolk shaped platform, and this was the stage that the band played from. Frequently all members of the band moved around the walkway, becoming nearer to different parts of the audience.

The moment the lights went down, the excitement rose. Opening with ‘Hello Hello Toronto’ the band started playing and the audience leaped and screamed. Everyone stood for the next two hours, as hit song after hit song was played. The audience knew the words to many of the songs, and often the band would stop playing and just let us sing. ‘And I still haven’t found what I’m looking for. In the name of love, once more in the name of love. We’re one, but we’re not the same. One life, to live together.’

When he sang ‘One’, we were one. When he sang ‘have you come here to play Jesus, because I did’, we sang in unison, and each of us meant it. Jesus is not a man but a concept, an idea that is rolling through us once again.

As the Christ consciousness comes into you, there is an ecstatic feeling of love. Everything is wonderful, and you are part of everything. There is recognition that you are both a unique individual, and a representation of a much higher energy. We are all part of this energy, and we are all one within it. We can and must be unique, but only as a part of the whole, and everything that we think and do directly affects the whole. This consciousness pulses at a higher vibration, in which we have much greater influence on our outcomes.

Do I think of Bono as the son of god? Yes, in the way that we are all sons and daughters of god. Bono simply reflects the Christ consciousness within us all, our drive towards love and compassion and the recognition of the soul in everyone. While the music acts as a catalyst, what is most important to this band and this audience is changing the world. Make it a better place to be. Equality is essential. Freedom is essential. Human rights are essential. Co-existence is essential.

The band U2, and particularly lead singer Bono have become very public representatives of some very important causes, including Greenpeace and Amnesty International. The most current and prominent campaign to ‘Make Poverty History’ is focused on the world taking care of everyone in it, with equal opportunity and basic rights for every individual.

The way that we reach these goals is to transform as a species. The very simple step is to see EVERYONE as a beautiful and a unique representation of god. You are special, and everyone else is special too. Be yourself and be unique. Add your creation to the universe and help us all grow. Respect and honor others, and you shall be respected and honored. Accept and love everyone for who they are, and smile. What a beautiful world with you too.

At one point during the concert, Bono began telling a story, and suggested that lead guitarist The Edge was actually ‘an alien from another planet in the future’. As teenagers, the other three band members had seen his ship land, and went to talk with him. They had many questions, but their main question was ‘What is the future like?’

The answer he gave was ‘Better’.
