Text Box: Life is full of magic moments. Sometimes the magic is an interaction with a special person. Other times the magic can be the completion of a goal, or eating a favorite meal, or witnessing the stupendous beauty of a sunset. Sometimes the magic is awakened by music, and the feeling is tremendous. Each time we feel this magic, it makes life worth living.

The other night, I was in a bar watching some old friends play music. I have known these people for more than twenty years, and their reunion concert was special. There were also many other friends in attendance, some whom I had not seen for a long time.

The band began to sing the song ‘After the Gold Rush’ by Neil Young. They sang ‘a cappella’, and the harmony of their voice was incredible. Since I knew all the words, I sang along as well, as did many others. The result was a beautiful harmonious sound, a vibration that affected everyone in the room. As the last line was sung, ‘flying mother nature’s silver seed to a new home…’, I realized how special the moment was, and how good I felt.

Many times in our lives, we get bogged down with details. There is always something that needs to be done. We worry, get stressed, build anxiety, and generally cause ourselves a lot of difficulty thinking about what to do. We remember events from the past, and wish things were different. We recognize what is lacking in our lives, and wish we had it all. As our mind generates thoughts, we tend to concentrate more on the past and future than we do on the present.

Even though we have these special moments, eventually we get back to ‘reality’ and the magic seems to fade. Emotions such as anger, guilt, sadness, and fear are rarely based on what is happening in the moment. Instead, they are usually based on thoughts and perceptions of what has past or what may be. It helps to recognize that our perceptions may be incorrect.

When magic moments occur, there is nothing else on our mind but now. In that magic moment, everything is perfect. Our ecstasy makes us glow, and for that brief time the universe revolves around our happiness. Every day there is magic, and all we need to do is see it.

Life is special, and each and every moment is special. Magic is everywhere if we choose to see it. However, it is the contrast of the truly magic moments that really show us what living is about. When we learn to quiet our mind and live in the moment, we realize what a beautiful gift we have been given.
