Text Box: A century and a half ago, the city of Troy was considered legend. Though stories from Homer and other Greek philosophers had carried through the ages, the general belief was that Troy was simply a story. This all changed in the 1870’s when German archeologist Heinrich Schliemann excavated a hill in modern Turkey. Beneath the hill were nine layers of ancient cities, dating back to 3000 B.C. Based on old maps and stories, the discovery was identified as Troy. Once the site was found the legend became true, and we now accept the city and the Trojan War as part of our history.

The Greek philosopher Plato has also written about another legendary land, which we know as Atlantis. According to Plato, the continent of Atlantis existed about 9500 B.C., about the same time that ancient Sumaria introduced agriculture and farming to humanity. A nation with a strong naval presence, Atlantis had tried and failed to invade Athens. Then, ‘in a single day and night of misfortune’, Atlantis sank into the ocean.

The legend of Atlantis describes an advanced civilization, whose evolution may have surpassed ours in many ways. While their technology never reached the levels that we see today, their science and healing capabilities may have been well beyond ours. Now lost to modern humanity, the magic of Atlantis is said to have initiated the ancient culture of Egypt. With mathematical and astrological knowledge that we have yet to understand, the Egyptians and Atlanteans may have discovered universal truths that are still hidden to modern man.

Today, debate surrounds the existence of Atlantis. As all historic references trace back to Plato, some say that he invented the city as a means of explaining his philosophies and concepts. However, there are other reports that identified the history of Atlantis written in hieroglyphics on columns in Egypt. Meanwhile, modern geologists claim that Atlantis, along with other mythological lost continents Lemuria and Mu, are virtual impossibilities given their current understanding of tectonic plate movement.

What if the myths are based on reality? What if we are not the first society to populate the earth? While evidence of Homo Sapiens found in Africa dates back about 200,000 years, the known history of mankind takes us back only eight thousand years. In those eight thousand years there have been many civilizations that have risen and fallen. While we have not yet found evidence of the lost civilizations, is it unrealistic to believe that they existed?

There are many memories within the mass consciousness about Atlantis. I have had past life regressions take me to the last days of Atlantis, where I can still see the rising of the water and the sinking of buildings. The cataclysmic fall of Atlantis may be related to previous shifts in the core and climate of the earth. Other myths reveal that Atlantis fell due to internal corruption, spiritual competition, and the misuse of the power of crystals.

In the legend of Atlantis, boats were sent out in all directions, carrying people and knowledge. It was the goodness of Atlantis that was carried on, and some of this knowledge formed the base of civilization as we know it. On the boats were men and women of wisdom; the poet, the physician, the philosopher, the magician, the farmer, and others who carried the knowledge of their people. Perhaps what we can remember about our lives back then can help us in our current situation. Perhaps it is time to remember Atlantis.
