Text Box: Did anyone else find the recent news coverage of the Jon Benet case to be strange? Out of the blue, a decade old murder returns to the headlines, and a suspect has confessed. For the next week, the media was dominated by the story, recalling all the details and speculating about what happened. CNN even went to the point of running old interviews with the parents.

Suddenly the war on television had been replaced by a demon. We had been deeply involved with the conflict in the Middle East, and now we were distracted. Instead of bombs and missiles, we were watching a gentle looking man with an evil past. But surprise, it turns out that he was just fooling us.

Suddenly, another demon reaches the media. The arrest of Warren Jeff Steeds will bring many questions, and could dominate the media for a while. The fugitive polygamist was wanted on many charges, including child rape. He is being persecuted for arranging marriages between younger girls and older men, a common practice in his polygamist organization.

The protection of children is deeply important to the mass consciousness. Offenses against children are absolutely wrong, and we feel great anger for those who break this rule. Crimes against children, especially of a sexual nature, are unforgivable in our belief system. So here we have two guys in a row that awaken our anger; two men in a row that capture our focus and attention.

It seems like the world, and the media, prefer to move their attention to something that is truly polar. The right and wrong in these cases is apparent. This was not so with the recent war. While some in the world had extreme attachment to a chosen side, many in the world simply wanted the war to end. We saw wrongness on both sides, yet we could also logically understand the position of each side.

The thing to remember is that events of the world continue, no matter what the focus of the media. While we focused on a decade-old nightmare, many Lebanese returned to their homes to discover nightmares of their own. While some fear that a boogieman might get their children, others fear that the next missile could wipe out their family. There is a lot of change required in this world, and it doesn’t go away just because we shift our focus to a different fear.

The way to change the world is through positive manifestation. Rather than just fearing or fighting, create positive alternatives. Rather than just wishing something would stop, create a new vision that resolves the issues. Instead of feeling compassion for an Africa full of starving children, visualize an Africa that abundantly grows more food than the people can eat. Instead of regretting a city covered in smog, visualize a clean fresh city powered by spinning windmills. Ignoring a problem doesn’t make it go away, but creation of a new reality is up to you.
