Text Box: The other day I picked up a book called ‘Universe in Your Pocket’, and randomly opened to a page entitled ‘Doomsday Scenarios’. The detailed list contained a ‘number of ways in which modern civilization could be brought crashing down’. Each scenario was described in detail, and supported with the odds of each catastrophe occurring.

The most likely form of planetary collapse is Ecological Meltdown. All forms of life on this planet are intertwined, and completely dependent upon each other. As one species disappears or adjusts natural patterns, other species are required to adjust as well. Deserts are expanding at a rapid pace, water shortages are realized in a large number of countries, centuries old coral reefs are dying, and the honeybee population is quickly shrinking. With population growth, pollution and massive consumption, humanity could be headed for a difficult time.

Climate Change has awakened a doomsday fear that is common in the mass consciousness. Global warming, melting ice caps, and more severe weather systems would only add to the difficulties caused by Ecological Meltdown. Together, the two scenarios combine to accelerate our challenge.

Next on the list of potential disaster for humanity is the advent of world war three. The battle of Armageddon has long been predicted for the end of days, and while religious faith seems to be at the forefront, political ideals determine action. Also, war need not be limited to world superpowers. Technology has advanced so that even small groups can cause major harm. Terrorism and insurgency are common words in the newspapers. In impoverished countries, tribes and groups fight for food, water and the ability to survive.

So what do we do? Do we give up and resign ourselves to difficult days? Do we call on our survival instincts, and make preparations to care for ourselves? Do we ignore the cacophony of information coming our way, and pray that everything turns out fine? Or do we take action, changing our own ways and trying to get others to change theirs?

Perhaps what we are really experiencing is the long predicted battle of good versus evil. For millennia the end game has been predicted, and now it is here. However, what we begin to realize is that the battle is not just between religions, not just between countries, and not just between political ideals. The battle exists within each and every one of us. We each have the opportunity to create or destroy, and our choices form the outcome. We do not conform to reality; instead we confirm reality. The choice is yours.

The Doomsday list continues to evaluate other disasters, such as outbreaks of disease, biological warfare, collision with meteors, depletion of the ozone layer, earthquakes, volcanoes and tsunami. An entire class of Hollywood movies has been based on imaginative and elaborate ways to save or destroy civilization. The sky is falling, and there is nothing that you can do about it.

Well, I am going to let you in on a little secret.
Nothing is written. The future has not yet unfolded.
The game is just getting more exciting.

I believe that we are on the brink of understanding how thoughts create our reality. I believe that humanity is nearing a shift in consciousness; an evolutionary jump that will allow us to create the paradise we deserve. I believe that everything is just fine, and that the contrasts we experience will result in the betterment of all.

But that is just me. What do you believe?
