Text Box: Have you noticed the similarity between an aerial view of a hurricane and a picture of a galaxy? The spinning formation is constant throughout the universe, increasing energy by creating a vortex. Whether you are flushing the toilet or observing a tornado, the spinning motion not only sweeps away anything in its path, it also creates suction to pull things along.

As our planet and galaxy spins throughout time, the concept of spinning extends to even deeper levels. Studies of the human energy field reveal areas known as chakras. Within the aura, there are vortexes of energy that spin like tornadoes, both absorbing and expelling energy. In Asian culture the chakras represent the wheel of life. As long as there is life there is spinning. The health of your body is directly related to the strength of your energy field and the spinning of your chakras.

The concept of spinning can also be applied to thoughts within mass conscience.
In American politics, spinning has increased dramatically as we countdown to the November 4 election. Hockey-mom-turned-governor Sarah Palin was a brilliant choice as John McCain’s running mate, providing balance and enthusiastic speaking to a boring campaign. Meanwhile pop-star Barack Obama chose Washington insider Joe Biden, a strategic move that allows Obama to shine in public while depending on Biden to organize behind the scenes.

With a tight race anticipated over the next two months, media will be inundated with suggestive programming. In her introductory speech, Palin played a beautiful game of emotional manipulation, raising fears about the bad guys and offering salvation with talk of patriotism and military dedication. A lot of emphasis was put on McCain’s military background. When you listen to what they say, it becomes obvious that the McCain Republicans intend to maintain the same military philosophies as the Bush Republicans.

Throughout her speech, Palin pushed a lot of buttons. She proclaimed that ‘John McCain is the only candidate who can prevent Iran from getting nuclear weapons’, pointing out that McCain is the only candidate to have fought for his country. Manipulated into self-defense, Obama saves face by insisting that he is also focused on preventing Iran from advancing their technology. When both parties declare aggressive stances with another nation, conflict is predetermined.

Meanwhile the Obama camp continually talks about change; both internally and externally. However, while pointing out that the Republican strategy will be to make big things of small issues, the Democrats are not really talking about changing anything dramatic. While the rights of the ‘little guy’ seem more prominent in Obama speeches, both sides tend to support the status quo. When Obama makes a point about taking care of war veterans, he is not just looking out for the little guy. He is telling you to expect more veterans.

Tactics used in media spinning include suggestions leading to fear or doubt, pairing of concepts (both negative and positive), awakening of uncomfortable emotions (if you don’t vote for us) and reinforcement of comfortable emotions (if you do vote for us). There are always many sides to every story and the truth is often invisible. Both parties exclaim ‘trust us, not them’, while at the same time acknowledging common enemies. Using a technique called ‘presumptive close’, both parties have already told us that war will continue. Both parties have also emphasized feelings of patriotism and duty along with a platform of survival.

In a chaotic world of swirling energy, your power remains within yourself. External influences may push your buttons, but it is up to you whether to move from a condition of balance. Even when the ride is roughest, taking a deep breath and reclaiming your balance allows broader viewpoints and greater power. As all the wheels of energy and information spin around you, gentle focus encourages your own spinning to follow your desires.

In the song ‘Spinning Wheel’, David Clayton Thomas sings ‘What goes up must come down; spinning wheel got to go round’. Change is constant, and we are living in a very volatile time. No matter what you read, real change will come not from the politicians but from the people. Personal empowerment comes through recognizing the energy behind each spin and choosing which vortices to support. You are in control; enjoy the ride.
