Text Box: Last week, while I was lying on a massage table receiving Reiki, my dead grandfather came to visit. Certain information left me with no doubt that his spirit was there, and while his message is open to interpretation, it has guided me to make a very important decision.

Every week, I get together with other Reiki practitioners to share energy. For many weeks, we have met to practice Reiki drumming, which is well documented in other articles on my web site. In addition, we have begun the practice of group Reiki sessions, during which one person lies on a massage table and receives Reiki from the other attendees. As the session progresses, each person gets a turn on the table, surrounded by Reiki energy.

So there I was, lying on a table receiving Reiki from two friends when one of them identified a strange feeling. She is usually psychically aware, so when a spirit communicated with her, she accepted it very openly. She stated that the spirit of an old man was contacting her, and she asked his name. His reply was ‘Walter’.

It took me only a second to realize that Walter was my paternal grandfather, and at the same moment my friend stated out loud that my grandfather was present. What made the information so clear for me was that I had never mentioned my grandfather’s name to my friend. Even if I had, he had been known by the nickname ‘Harry’, and only close relatives knew his real name.

Once I knew that grandfather was present, I was very ready to listen and receive his message. The message was quite straightforward and simple, and I was told that I had a very important decision to make, and that it would affect the outcome of my life. Though I desired more detailed information, I did not get it. All I know is that my grandfather was there, and made it clear that I had something important to decide.

I thought through many different things that night, about the various decisions I was currently faced with. I thought about buying a car, of selling my house, of getting a new job, of traveling to visit friends, and about approaching a potential girlfriend. These issues are all current in my life, and awaiting resolution. I was unsure which message was important enough for my grandfather’s spirit to visit, and chose to allow the answer to become clear on its own.

The next morning, I woke up with the answer. I have been logging my dreams for the past while, and when I woke I wrote down a very clear statement. Quit smoking, or get lung cancer. I realized that all of the other things I was thinking about were trivial in comparison, and the most important decision I could make was to save my life. I have been smoking for 32 years, in direct conflict with my healer aspects. Of course, like all smokers, I realize the dangers, but have continued to put off the decision until a later date. That later date happens to be now. From this point onwards, I am a non-smoker.

Over twenty years ago, I had a spiritual experience with my dead grandmother, which I documented in the story ‘The Flowers that Opened my Eyes’. In that situation, I searched for her message, until I finally realized the simple point that ‘There is more’. Once again I have been given a message, and again it was left to me to determine the details. While the inspiration to quit smoking came from within, it took an unexpected visitor to remind me that decisions about my health are more important than anything else.

Thank you grandfather!
